Abstract
In an attempt to evaluate the cellular immunity in the patients with tuberculosis of various clinical presentations, we tested DNCB (dinitrochlorobenzene) skin sensitization reaction by means of Catalona¢¥s method and tuberculin reaction in 39 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis, 14 cases of tuberculous serositis, 1 case of tuberculous meningitis and 8 cases of genitourinary tuberculosis. The results are as followings.
1) Overall DNC.B sensitization rate of the tuberculous diseases was 59.7%. And the rate was remarkably decreased in tuberculous serositis(42. 9%) in contrast with pulmonary tuberculosis (66.7%) and genitourinary tuberculosis (62.5%).
2) In pulmonary tuberculosis, there was decreasing tendency of DNCB sensitization rate with increasing extent of pulmonary involvement by tuberculosis.
3) The tuberculin reaction was positive in 74.1% of the patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and also showed decreasing tendency of pulmonary involvement by tuberculosis.
4) The DNCB sensitization rate in tuberculosis was correlated with tuberculin reaction. However, 8 out of 27 (29.6%) showed positive tuberculin reaction with negative DNCB sensitization reaction and 3 out of 27 (11. 1%) showed positive DNCB sensitization reaction with negative tuberculin reaction.
5) Overall DNCB sensitization rate of the steroidtreated group was 28.7%, while that a non-steroid group was 63.0%. But the reversed findings were observed in tuberculous serosis.
